Introduction to TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is a globally recognized English proficiency test, primarily accepted by universities in the USA, Canada, Australia, and Europe. It measures a candidate’s ability to understand and use English in an academic setting. The test evaluates Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing skills.

2. TOEFL Exam Types

TOEFL is offered in two formats:

A) TOEFL iBT: Conducted online and is the most widely accepted format. Consists of four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.
B) TOEFL PBT: Offered in regions where internet-based testing is unavailable. Includes Listening, Structure & Written Expression, Reading, and Writing.

3. TOEFL Exam Format & Sections

A) Reading (54–72 minutes): 3 to 4 academic passages followed by 30 to 40 questions.
B) Listening (41–57 minutes): 4 to 6 academic lectures and 2 to 3 conversations.
C) Speaking (17 minutes): 4 tasks: Independent and Integrated speaking tasks.
D) Writing (50 minutes): Task 1: Integrated Writing. Task 2: Independent Writing.
